Digic Photoscan is a 3D scanning facility producing high-quality, production-ready,
fully textured 3D scans. They are produced for the film-, television-, and game industries,
as well as for scientific use. DIGIC Pictures uses this 3D scan services
for its own award winning animated films.

About Digic Photoscan

Located in Budapest, Hungary, the facility houses our high performance photogrammetry system in a custom-built octogonal photostudio. Hosted in a comfortable environment with highly trained professional staff, the system utilizes a fully customizable array of 112 DSLR cameras (112 x 24 mpx) for full body scanning and 56 DSLR cameras (56 x 24 mpx) for face scanning. So together we can serve our clients with 168 cameras (168 x 24 mpx), with 360-degree lighting.

Scanning however is not limited to the studio. The system can be easily transported and assembled, which allows the efficient onlocation scanning of human scans. Prop scanning is also available from smaller objects like a sword or a helmet to larger subjects like buildings or rockwalls.

3D scanning is recommended for objects and organic things that would be otherwise difficult to model, such as people, animals, plants, complex landscapes or environment elements (eg. ruined cities).

The photogrammetry process used and refined by Digic provides the perfect and quick replica of the original object and it has many advantages compared to the generally used laser and LIDAR scanning. Whether you need to scan tiny bugs or full buildings, we can work with all kind of object sizes. We also generate high resolution textures and models, ready to be used for VFX productions, adjusted right to the clients' pipeline.

The scanned data goes through various levels of processing, which ranges from basic cleanup to the detailed retopology and tweaking of the model’s fine details, where unique client requests can be accommodated. Generally we use a unique processing method on 16 bit.

The output can be a ZBrush tool file format (*.ztl) that is comfortable for most vfx house , or *.obj, etc.

Texture resolution can be 8-16K, available formats: *.jpg, or *.png, or *.tif.

Our capturing method also deals with most of the speculars.

  • Power: AC 200V 16A, High speed WLAN (or lan)
  • Room size minimum 7m x 6m, 2.8m height, white walls, middle grey carpet, or matt grey paint, 2 tables, 2 chairs, 2 paravans (2m x 1.5m)


RAW scan

Raw scan coming out of the processing program. No manual work/cleaning made on the scan - recommended for previs, animation drafts as a placeholder, defining bodyweight.

BASIC cleanup

Cleaned version of the RAW scan, with noise removal, mesh fixing, basic manual work made with Zbrush, under artistic control - recommended for modelling, crowd scenes.

ADVANCED cleanup

BASIC cleanup + better UV spaces, fine modelling and sculpting. Semi-auto retopology, semi auto UV setup, 5-7 levels of subdivision in Zbrush, microdetail reconstruction, color texture with flattened speculars. Hair removal can be included. Output can be great source for VFX post-production.


ADVANCED cleanup + semi or fully manual built polygon topology and UV space. Ideal for higher quality VFX post-production. Processing is adjusted according to the client’s pipeline.
